Auto-Backup in Virtual Worlds is a feature that helps safeguard your designs by automatically saving backup files, even if you forget to press the save button. This feature can be customized to run at regular intervals, ensuring that you don’t lose your work in case of unexpected shutdowns or other issues.
How to Check and Configure Auto-Backup Settings
- In Virtual Worlds, go to Tools > Options.
- Under the Design Back-up heading, you’ll see if Auto-Backup is turned on and how often backups are being saved.
- The interval setting will show how many minutes until the next backup will occur. If Auto Save is turned off or the interval is set to 0, there will be no automatic backups.
- If necessary, tick the Auto Save box and adjust the interval to ensure backups are created at your preferred frequency.
Recovering a Lost Design Using Backups
- If you lose your design, the quickest way to load the backup file is to go to File > Open in Virtual Worlds.
- In the Open window, change the File Type box at the bottom to include vwx, vws, or vwb files.
- Locate your backup file (typically saved as .vwx_bak), and select it to load the most recent version of your design.
Best Practices for Auto-Backup
We recommend saving your room as soon as you see a 3D image. By doing this, the backup file will be stored in the same location as your room file and will be saved as a .vwx_bak file. If you don’t save the file, it will be saved in the default location as Design*.vwx_bak.
Note: If the Auto Save box is unticked and the interval is set to 0, no backups will be created.
